JESSE GARCIA-Acoma

This extraordinary Acoma pot was made by the Acoma matriarch, Jesse Garcia, who was a contemporary of Lucy lewis and Marie Chino. A larger pot of hers, this piece measures 8" wide by 5 1/4" high, and may have been somewhat of an experiment on Jesse's part. She used a very thin white slip or wash over the base clay that allowed the base clay to show through, giving it an almost instant patina of age, while the interior was left in the natural clay. Then she added the design elements. It is signed on the base. A riveting and unique piece of Jesse's work which would be the focal point of any collection!
