ANTIQUE RAFFIA BASKETThis is a very unusual basket that was made in the Arts and Crafts period from about 1880 to 1900. The material, raffia, is typical of do-it-yourself kits used by women of that era, and is an imitation of Native American design, which was popular and the designs were fairly new to most people in the country at that time. It is a good size basket, measuring 12 and 1/2" in length and 7 an 1/4" in width and 7" in depth. A stunning piece on display with other period items, it was purchased almost twenty years ago and was displayed with New England furniture, but would do well with many other styles as well. It is so well made and sturdy. There are a few small ink? stains which are shown in the pictures and have been there since it was purchased by the prior owner. This is a superb find!
