SINCLAIR FRANCISCO HORSE HAIR BASKET

This is a stunning and incredibly difficult basket made by one of the top horse hair weavers of the Tohono O'odham or Papago, Sinclair Francisco. Measuring 2 3/4" in diameter, this gorgeous basket has 12 lizards and 12 snakes in an almost abstract design. It is amazingly tightly woven in a coil weave containing probably around 30,000 stitches! Sinclair's work can be viewed at the site for the University of Arizona’s State Museum, as he took the 2007 Award of Excellence in Basketry at the Southwest Indian Art Fair there. This is definitely a piece for the serious collector! Simply incredible!
